Movie Reviews:
Letters to God is based on a true story. And it is such a good movie, it will make you laugh and cry.It is a about an eight year old boy named Tyler who has brain cancer. And the whole movie is about how he writes letters to God about everything going on in his life. And he encourages others to write letters to God as well. I'm afraid if I tell y'all more about the movie I'll ruin it, so I wont tell you any more.
This movie is very family - friendly the whole family will enjoy!
Tangled the Disney twist on Rapunzel. It is such a cute movie that will make you laugh! Tangled is about a beautiful young girl who gets taken when she is very young. Being locked up in a tower doesn't really keep you away from the world! Rapunzel learns that the "hard" way! On her little "adventure" Rapunzel meets some crazy friends. Join Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Max in this cute family - friendly movie.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the best Narnia movie ever (then again that's just my opinion)! This is the third Narnia has made based on C.S. Lewis' series. Edmund and Lucy Pevancy (I think I spelled the last name wrong) are called to Narnia once again...but this time they take their pesty cousin Ustace with them. I don't know how to tell you all anything else with out giving the whole thing away. All I can tell you is that is very appropriate for ages 10+. This is a great family movie, one the whole family will enjoy!
This movie may be scary for kids 8 and under. Because of a scene where they fight a sea monster...Disney portrayed the sea monster in a scary way. Too scary for the younger kids!
Gnomeo and Juliet is a spoof on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Sydney and I were really excited to see this. So when it made it to the dollar theater we jumped on the opportunity! My mom read reviews on it, and said it was OK. Well all I can say is this...the previews before the movie were better! Don't waste your money on buying the movie!!! It was awful...if you've never seen Shrek... good...it was as crude and inappropriate as Shrek.
Book Reviews:
Lately I've been trying to read more, so I thought I'd share the books I have finished with you. Also, since we've had a HUGE garage sale, and my mom wanted to get rid of the not-so-God-glorifying books, I'd thought I'd help out... and because I love reading (I just don't do enough of it).- The true confessions of Charlotte Doyle ~ this was an okay book, it had a good story behind it, the author did a good job imitating sailors in the book. It's just I don't really want to read a book with curse words in almost every sentence we read. It didn't have that many curse words, but it was still offending.
- The Great Gilly Hopkins ~ I do not recommend this book for any child to read! This book was full of curse words in almost every single page I turned, and every sentence I read.
- The River ~ this is the sequel to Hatchet, but I don't recommend this book at all. This again it has curse words, God's name in vain. I also don't recommend Hatchet, Brian's winter, and The winter room.
Biographies
- Jim Elliot - this man was a man who was called by God to be a missionary in Ecuador. This book tells about his senior year in high school up to the time of his last breath. It really puts in perspective how dangerous missions can be, but that didn't stop Jim and his friends. Will Jim and his friends see their loved ones again? Will they reach the lives of the people in Ecuador? This is an awesome biography (I'm not one who is all about biographies). I highly recommend this book for all ages.
Christian readings
- Do Hard Things - Alex and Brett tell you that just because you are called a teenager, you are expected to basically stun the world and meet even higher expectations. This is a must read, I highly recommend this book. What does the world expect from us teenagers? Are we really expected to do much less than the pioneer children were? This book tells us what the world expects out of kids our age. And what God expects out of kids our age. This book is very appropriate for the teen ages.
Christian fiction
- Woman of the Forest - this fiction book is another really good book. This book is about a teenage boy who is really lost spiritually and always in some sort of trouble when he is around his friends. When his parents decide to change they are living their lives, the young boy decides home isn't the place he wants to be. Soon he finds himself lost and with a strange woman with a bunch of secrets, in the middle of nowhere. Will he ever get back home, or will he be stuck with the crazy old woman forever. This book is an awesome Christian book as well, it is appropriate for all ages.
- Mara Daughter of the Nile - this is such a great book...one I could read over and over again. The book was about Mara, a young Egyptian slave girl who longs to be free. As soon as she gets her chance, she soon finds herself falling in love with her new master...Lord Sheftu. Sheftu who is caught up in some dangerous work finds himself falling in love with her too. Will Mara help Sheftu in his dangerous work? Will the two give into their love for one another? You're going to have to read the book to find out! This book is appropriate for ages 12+.
